Interest in Bilingualism

I  became particularly interested in bilingualism when I was expecting my first child. I wanted my child to grow up as a German/English bilingual speaker and wondered how to go about it. I started reading about the subject and, a few years later, bilingual language acquistion in pre-school children became the focus of my studies at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, which made me specialise in early bilingual language acquisition and language mixing. Since then, it has been one of my primary interests in linguistics.

Until today, I have specialised in bi-/multilingualism in two ways: First, on a private level, with raising three bilingual (English/German) children. Second, on a professional level, with my work on bilingual first language acquisition at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, and most recently at the LMU (Ludwig-Maximillians-Universität) in Munich.

In May 2014, I started to share my experience and expertise in the framework of seminars for parents and caregivers on multilingual education organised by the IFM (Internationale Forschungsstelle für Mehrsprachigkeit - International Research Unit for Multilingualism) of LMU in Munich.

My endeavour is to facilitate help, support and guidance for people who consider bilingual and multilingual education as an asset to both families and sociey as a whole, and are eager to promote it.
